Product Profile:

There are several basic concepts that guide Crystal Creek's approach to livestock nutrition and management, all of which are reflected in how

Dairy Glow is formulated.  We believe that Crystal Creek's approach to livestock nutrition would be beneficial in any livestock operation.

  1) Support Optimum Digestive Bio-Efficiency:  First and foremost it is important to support optimum digestion with a balanced diet and good management.  Supporting optimum digestive bio-efficiency helps a cow to utilize more of the nutrients from your own feedstuffs in the best manner possible.

We at Crystal Creek consider it to be irresponsible, especially in light of today's agricultural economy, herd health challenges and environmental concerns, for a nutritionist to solely recommend adding more nutrients to the ration to address perceived nutrient deficiencies, without taking into consideration how to best support digestive bio-efficiency, optimize nutrient utilization of farm raised feedstuffs and encourage cow productivity over a 'long' healthy life span with sound nutrition management.

Optimum digestive bio-efficiency could mean improved profitability for the producer as well as less nutrient loss in the manure of critical, high priced nutrients such as:

1) Starch, i.e. high starch in the manure may indicate serious digestive and metabolic dysfunction such as during acidosis, heavy parasitism, liver dysfunction, unbalanced or high stress diets.

2) Protein, i.e. manifested in many ways including loose stools, high 'milk urea nitrogen' (MUN's) , reduced milk components, reduced reproductive performance.

3) Fiber, i.e. indicates poor rumen function, overly accelerated digestive flow, reduced nutrient absorption.

4) Macro Minerals, i.e. calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium.

5) Micro Minerals, i.e. zinc, copper, manganese, cobalt, selenium.

2) Do Not Use Ingredients That Are Counter Productive to Digestive Bio-Efficiency.

We also believe in the physicians creed of 'do no harm' as the first rule in constructing a product and/or ration.  There are a number of ingredients commonly used in ration balancing and product formulation today that on the surface look beneficial, however, with closer examination the reality is some ingredients are actually counterproductive to digestive bio-efficiency by blocking and/or tying up key nutrients (amino acids, trace elements, vitamins and macro minerals).  Crystal Creek understands the pitfalls of these deceiving ingredients and avoids them in our formulation.

3) Formulate With Highly Bio-Available Nutrients:  While supporting digestive efficiency it is important to recognize that even the best feedstuffs and forages today are being grown on soils that have been depleted to some level.  It is common for critical trace elements and nutrients to be at low levels in a typical forage.  This is why it is important to fortify the ration with highly bio-available nutrients the cow needs for optimum health and performance.

4) Reduce Over-Lap Of Purchased Additives In The Ration:  For example, here is a list of some of the additives that may be reduced and/or eliminated in the ration when feeding Crystal Creek's Dairy Glow.

a) Kelp

b) Yeast

c) Microbials

d) Buffers

e) Clay and Charcoal Binders

 f) Trace Mineral Paks

g) Enzymes

5) Understand The Connection Between Nutrition And Immune Function.  The immune system has a direct impact on the ultimate productivity of the livestock we depend on.  Science, and life, continues to teach us about this important connection between a nutrient rich, balanced diet with key plant nutrients and optimum immune function.  Crystal Creek believes it is fundamentally important to balance the diet as nature would with a full range of high quality, naturally occuring phytonutrients to support optimum immune function.
